MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas (UST) made quick work of University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS), 25-20, 25-10, 25-7, to extend its perfect run to 10 games in the girls' division of the UAAP Season 80 high school volleyball tournament on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Junior Tigresses are now assured of a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four, and are also two wins away from sweeping the eliminations and jumping to the best-of-three finals outright.
Meanwhile, defending champion National University (NU) claimed the other semifinals bonus after eliminating Adamson University, 25-14, 25-15, 25-18.
NU improved to 8-1, while handing Adamson its eighth loss in 11 matches. The Baby Falcons bowed out of the semis race.
Reigning boys' titlist NU also emerged triumphant over Adamson, 25-5, 25-15, 25-4, to tie Far Eastern University-Diliman, a 28-26, 25-13, 25-22 winner over Ateneo de Manila University, in first place at 9-2.
In other games, UST drubbed the UPIS, 25-13, 25-17, 25-14, while University of the East swept De La Salle-Zobel, 25-19, 25-17, 25-18.
The Junior Tiger Spikers and the Junior Warriors improved to 8-3 in joint third place, a game behind the Bullpups and the Baby Tamaraws in the race for the two twice-to-beat slots in the Final Four up for grabs.
