MANILA, Philippines – The Loyola Meralco Sparks were merciless in routing the Blue Guards FC, 33-0, in the United Football League (UFL) Cup Wednesday night.
Samuel Bonney opened the scoring in the very first minute, and there was no let-up for the Sparks as they netted 15 goals in the opening half alone.
They added 18 more in the second half, with Phil Younghusband netting in the 90th minute to complete the rout of the guest team.
Younghusband finished with eight goals, while Chad Gould added seven. James Younghusband and Matthew Hartmann each scored five goals for the Sparks.
The Blue Guards have lost all of their four games in the UFL Cup by double-digits.
In the other game on Wednesday, Green Archers FC defeated Navy FC, 5-0, behind an early brace from Floriano Pasilan Jr.
Pasilan scored in the 23rd minute and again in the 30th to follow-up the opening goal scored by Reynald Villareal in the 14th minute.
Jesse Martindale and Robert Waly Lopez Mendy scored in the 84th and 91st minute, respectively.
Loyola and Green Archers occupy the top two spots in Group E, with nine points each.
