MANILA, Philippines – Former lightweight champion Frankie “The Answer” Edgar is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), according to welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre.
Edgar lost his title to Benson Henderson at UFC 144 in February, but St-Pierre still considers him the best fighter in the UFC.
“No. 1 is Frankie Edgar,” St-Pierre answered when asked by the Los Angeles Times who the top three fighters in the UFC were. “He’s the best pound-for-pound fighter we have.”
“Jon Jones is No. 2, Anderson Silva’s No. 3,” he added.
St-Pierre believes that Edgar should have won his two fights against Henderson earlier this year.
“He lost his fight to Benson Henderson only according to the judges,” he said. “He was much stronger than Henderson.”
Most UFC pound-for-pound lists put Silva, the middleweight champion, at the top spot, with Jones and St-Pierre usually second and third, respectively.
St-Pierre declined to include himself in his own list, pointing out that he has not been active inside the Octagon for almost a year.
“I haven’t fought in a long time. I’m out of it,” he said. “After Carlos Condit, maybe I’ll be back.”
St-Pierre will fight Condit for the undisputed welterweight title at UFC 154 in November.
