MANILA, Philippines – International Boxing Federation (IBF) lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez of Mexico is not taking his title defense against unbeaten Filipino boxer Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta lightly.

Vazquez, coming off a split-decision victory over Marvin Quintero last week, will reportedly defend his title against Gesta on December 8, in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez card.

“I feel very happy and motivated,” Vazquez told Boxing Scene. “These are the fights that I want.”

“All I’m thinking about now is December 8th and fighting Gesta and putting on a great performance. I think that it will be complicated fight,” he added.

Vazquez is expecting Gesta to be “even more aggressive than Quintero.”

“He’s undefeated and very strong... I know that I have to prepare even harder for December 8th,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gesta is set to begin training for the fight on November 1 at Big Bear. It will be the Filipino lightweight's first time to fight for a world title.
