MANILA, Philippines – The trainer of Nick Diaz said his pupil facing former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight contender Josh Koscheck looks like a viable option.
Cesar Gracie, Diaz’s Brazilian ju-jitsu coach, said he prefers his fighter to face Koscheck instead of Demian Maia.
"Personally, I like the option of him fighting Koscheck, a guy who is very popular here in the United States, has great public recognition," he said in MMA Fighting.
Gracie said his fellow Brazilian Maia is a great fighter, but pointed out that Koscheck is more popular than Maia.
"Demian Maia is a great fighter, I think [he] would also be a great opponent, but here in America, [he] is not as popular as Koscheck. So I think Nick probably will face Josh Koscheck in his return to the octagon," said Gracie.
Diaz is currently serving suspension after he tested positive for marijuana metabolites following his unanimous decision loss to Carlos Condit in UFC 143.
He will be allowed to secure a fight license after his suspension expires on February 3 next year.
