MANILA, Philippines – Diana Carlos outdueled University of the Philippines (UP) teammate Isa Molde in the endgame to lead Team Red to an entertaining four-set victory over Team White in the Premier Volleyball League All-Star Game on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
In a game that was held for the benefit of the Hero Foundation, the Roger Gorayeb-mentored Red Team pulled off a 25-21, 25-22, 13-25, 25-21 win over the Rico de Guzman-coached Team White.
"Masaya kami, kasi ito naman ay ginawa para sa mga fans ng mga batang ito," Gorayeb said after the game. "Pangalawa, para doon sa Hero Foundation, 'yung makatulong kami, makabigay kami ng kasiyahan sa mga tao."
"Ito na ang isauli namin sa suportang binigay nila for the past three conferences, at saka very noble 'yung rason ng pagkakaroon nito eh," he added.
The Red Team reached match point at 24-19, but Molde helped Team White save two match points before Carlos connected on a crosscourt kill to seal the deal.
Carlos finished with 15 points in just three sets, while National University's Aiko Urdas contributed 11 points. Setter Jasmine Nabor had 23 excellent sets for the Red Team.
Meanwhile, Nicole Tiamzon led Team White with 14 points, while Molde finished with 12 markers. Jia Morado tallied 29 points for the White Team, which also saw Mel Gohing tally 14 digs and 12 excellent receptions.
