MANILA, Philippines – Filipino lightweight boxer Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta is excited for his upcoming title shot against International Boxing Federation (IBF) champion Miguel Vazquez even as he admits that the Mexican will be tough to fight.
“I am really excited right now and my team too, that I have a chance to fight this guy,” Gesta said in an interview with PhilBoxing. “I am just excited right now.”
“I can’t wait for tomorrow or when the Top Rank people will contact us for that fight,” he added.
Vazquez is coming off a difficult split decision victory over Marvin Quintero last weekend, but suffered no cuts.
The Gesta-Vazquez fight will most likely happen in the undercard of the HBO pay-per-view fight between rivals Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
It will be Gesta’s first title fight, and the Filipino boxer is already expecting a tough battle.
“It looks like it is hard to fight this guy,” Gesta admitted. “It looks like he does not know how to box, but he looks like a hard fighter to fight.”
“He won the fight and it looks like it was boring, but this guy will be hard to fight,” he added.
Gesta last fought in August, when he knocked out American fighter Ty Barnett in the ninth round.
