MANILA, Philippines – Top Rank chief executive Bob Arum is delighted to see Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao hard at work in his training camp at General Santos City, and believes that his hometown is the “perfect place” for the “Pacman” to train in.
“Manny is training more seriously and harder than any time I have ever seen him,” Arum said in a conference call last weekend. “Manny, to me, looks more dedicated than ever, and General Santos is the perfect place for him to train.”
“I think the Manny you are going to see on November 23rd is going to be perhaps better than the Manny Pacquiao we saw against (Oscar) De La Hoya, (Ricky) Hatton and (Miguel) Cotto,” he added.
Pacquiao will try to end a two-fight losing streak against American boxer Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios on November 23 in Macau.
Pacquiao himself confirmed that his training camp is going well. “We are very excited. We are very focused in training, and we have no distractions,” he said.
The boxer added that it made more sense for him to train in General Santos instead of in Los Angeles, where has held his training camps for previous fights, since the bout will be held in Macau.
“For this fight in Macau, it is better to train here in the Philippines. It is always better to train near, or in the same region as where the fight is,” Pacquiao said. “Since the fight is in Macau, this is the best place for me, here in the Philippines.”
