BAGO CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines – Pinweight Orville King Olaivar of Tagbilaran notched his second straight victory as he continued to make heads turn in the 2012 PLDT-ABAP Visayas Area Tournament at the Bago City Coliseum here.
Olaivar outpointed Daryl Victorino of Dumaguete, 10-5, in Monday’s opener of this grassroots event then returned to the ring Tuesday to whip Dick Espinolo of Northern Samar, 14-4, and advance to the semis of the juniors division (17-18 years).
Olaivar, a veteran of the recent Palarong Pambansa in Lingayen, Pangasinan, also defeated Victorino in last year’s Batang Pinoy in Dumaguete.
Other Tuesday’s winners were pinweight Mario Jaga of Bago City A, who held off Jeffrey Stella of Mandaue, 14-10; flyweights Chaim Pascual of Dumaguete, who saw off Albino Tihuk Jr. of Sipalay City, 11-7, and Kenneth Paul Gentalan of Tagibilaran, who edged Lemwil Javines of Bago City A, 13-12.
In the boys’ division (15-16), pinweight Paul Sacupon of Northern Samar rained punches on Wenfredo Victoriano of Bago City B for a 36-10 rout, while Arnold Jetajobe of Sagay City outclassed BJ Cordova of Bago City A, 21-13.
Scoring stoppages in the flyweight class were Argie Alabado of Bacolod over Joseph Carino of Dumaguete in the first round, and Jusua Sambajon of Northern Samar over Gems
