Lady Volcanoes to compete in China invitational

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Lady Volcanoes development team will be heading to China to compete in the 2012 Guangzhou Zhengcheng International Women Invitational Rugby Sevens.

The invitational takes place on October 27 to 28, according to Philippine Rugby Football Union

The Filipinas earned a last-minute invite after their recent win in the Bowl Division of the Rugby World Cup Qualifier in India.

Included in the list of countries competing at the invitational are Singapore, the US, Thailand, South Africa, Kazakhstan, China and Chinese Taipei.

Ada Milby, the sister of actor Sam Milby, was named team captain, while Nikki Lira will be the vice captain for the China tour.

Coach Dean Baker will be calling the shots for the Lady Volcanoes.

Also playing for the developmental team are Rozie Morala, Madille Salinas, Blessie De los Santos, Cassie Umali, Tonette Gambito, Luisa Jordan, Acee San Juan, Kaye Honoras, Rose Cruz and Arlene Trinkler.

The Philippines will open its campaign on October 27 when it plays three straight games against China, Singapore and the US.
