MANILA, Philippines – Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (GSP) insists he is not afraid of fighting interim title-holder Carlos Condit at UFC 154, in what will be his first bout since recovering from a knee injury.
“I’m not scared of Carlos Condit,” St. Pierre said in ESPN UK. “I hope he targets my knee. It’s not a weakness anymore.”
St. Pierre injured himself in training last December 2011, forcing himself to pull out of a bout against Nick Diaz.
Condit stepped up to fight Diaz and pulled off the minor upset, winning via unanimous decision. He and St. Pierre will battle for the undisputed title on November 17.
Although he does not fear Condit, GSP admits he is facing the toughest fight of his career to date.
“This is the biggest challenge of my whole career. I’m fighting the toughest fight I’ve ever fought, and I have to come off a long lay-off,” he said.
“The biggest thing Condit has is his capacity of adaptation. He can adapt to any opponent he fights. That’s why he’s so good. He’s very skilled, but he’s also very smart,” St. Pierre added.
But St. Pierre is excited to finally get back inside the Octagon after long months of inactivity.
“I’ve spent a year-and-a-half waiting to fight. I’m back and stronger than ever,” he said.
