Tropang Texters coach Norman Black credited their tight defense for their victory over the Energy Cola players at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
"In the end, we can hang our hats on playing defense every game," said Black in the league’s official website.
Jimmy Alapag’s triple gave Talk ‘N Text a three-point lead with 1:27 minutes left.
The Tropang Texters then held the Energy Cola down, forcing Barako Bull to miss both of its final two attempts at the ring.
"We're now 5 and 0 and we will try to become 6 and 0 in our next game," said Black. "In my experience, the easiest route to the championships is getting there with the best record and that is on our mind right now."
Black noted, however, that Talk ‘N Text's score was its lowest output so far in the conference. He said Barako Bull did a good job scouting his team.
"Our offenses are similar, so it was easy for them," said Black.
The former Ateneo coach said that when their offenses started to falter, they were forced to turn on their defense.
"If our offense is not clicking, we can always rely on defense."
Jason Castro finished with 15 points, while Larry Fonacier added 13. Ali Peek chipped in 10.
Barako Bull’s Enrico Villanueva top-scored with 16 points.
His team mates Doug Kramer, Sean Anthony and Ronald Tubid had at least 12 each.
