MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines will be the host of the first round of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-16 Women’s Championships which will be held on November 7-11 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
According to the Philippine Football Federation (PFF), the tournament will see the Philippines grouped with Thailand, Myanmar and Australia in Group C.
The top two teams will advance to the next round. The tournament will eventually determine the teams who will compete for a slot in the AFC U-16 Women’s Championships in 2016.
PFF Women’s Committee Head Carlo Rodriguez said hosting international football tournaments is the most efficient way to increase awareness in women’s football while incurring the least costs.
The Philippines also hosted the AFC U-19 and U-16 Women’s Qualifications Rounds at the University of Makati in 2010. By Kathleen Tantuico
