MANILA, Philippines - Pachanga FC leaned on Ernest Appiah and Ariel Zerrudo Jr. in the second as it stunned Loyola Meralco Sparks, 2-1, to seize the Group C lead in the United Football League Cup at the University of Makati field in Makati Saturday night.
Appiah uncorked a 59th minute goal while Zerrudo hit the back of the net on the 70th as Pachanga came from a 0-1 deficit to turn back the Sparks.
Korean Jeong Byeong Yeol struck late in the first half to give Loyola a 1-0 edge at the turn.
Pachanga, which dominated the Second Division to gain a spot in the premier class, thus surged to the top with six points on the two wins against a loss, edging Nomads FC, which also has six points on two triumphs, for the lead on goal differential, 3-2.
The Sparks failed to draw the best from brothers James and Phil Younghusband and fell to No. 3 with three points on a win and a setback.
In the other match, Global FC routed Navy, 4-0, to regain the Group A lead.
Alex Obiang delivered a brace on the 47th and 51st minutes as the Global booters pulled away with 10 points on three victories and a deadlock.
Sudanese striker Izzo El Habib scored his sixth goal of the Cup after a 46th minute rocket while Kevin Umberto Capolei added another one on the 58th.
Also in Group A, Pasargad banked on Masood Shedideh’s five goals as it overpowered Team Socceroo, 8-0, to move to third with six points behind Global and General Trias.
Shedideh scored on the 24th, 41st, 69th, 77th and 90th minutes to move to the top of the scoring race with seven overall.
