MANILA, Philippines – UFC middleweight contender Michael “The Count” Bisping claims welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (GSP) is not truly interested in a mega-fight with middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva of Brazil.
Bisping is hoping to get a shot at Silva’s title, but the Brazilian legend is more interested in pursuing a fight against St. Pierre.
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Bisping said he suspects St. Pierre is not open to fighting Silva.
“It sounds to me, reading between the lines, I don’t think ‘GSP’ is really keen on it. I think he realizes that it’s not a good fight for him, to be honest,” Bisping said.
“He’s said it’s a giant pain in the (expletive) to always talk about Anderson Silva, and I’m sure it would be a giant pain in the jaw as well,” he added.
Bisping said he is getting frustrated with the waiting game that he is playing in the middleweight division.
“I’m a perennial contender. I’m here, and I’m fighting the best guys. I want my shot. I’m tired. I know I’ve got to wait my turn, but it’s pissing me off,” Bisping said. “I want to get my title shot, and if I keep beating guys, they’ll have no choice but to give it to me.”
Silva has defeated many of the top contenders in the middleweight division, although Bisping insists there are many up-and-coming fighters who can challenge “The Spider.”
“I think 185-pounds is the most exciting division in the UFC right now. It certainly has the best champion, and it certainly has the most challengers for the belt,” Bisping said.
“There’s no shortage of contenders. There’s no shortage of exciting fights for me at 185. I’m privileged to be a part of it,” he added.
