MANILA, Philippines -- The Azkals will go up against the Singaporean Lions as the Philippine squad winds up its preparations for the 2012 Suzuki Cup.
The exhibition match will take place in Cebu on November 15.
The Filipino footballers will be playing the higher-ranked Singaporeans for the second time this year. The Azkals blanked the 126-ranked Lions, 2-0, at the Jurong West Stadium in Singapore.
The Filipinos are coming off a 10-day training camp in the Middle East, which included friendly matches against Bahrain and Kuwait.
The Azkals, rated No. 147 in the world by FIFA, held the 115-ranked Bahrain to a scoreless draw. This was followed by the Azkals’ 2-1 defeat to the 112-ranked Kuwait.
But Philippine team coach Hans Michael Weiss said the Azkals showed progress despite the loss.
"We had a narrow 2-1 loss which could have been easily a draw, so I think that shows that we're going in the right direction," he said. "I'm satisfied, no problem."
The Philippines was drawn into the so-called "Group of Death" in the Suzuki Cup -- with Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar in Group A -- which begins on November 24.
The Azkals, who reached the Suzuki Cup semis in 2010, seek to reach the Cup's finals this year.
