MANILA, Philippines – Filipino chessers Oliver Dimakiling and Haridas Pascua failed to get Grand Master (GM) norms at the conclusion of the Indonesian Open Chess Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia yesterday.
International Master Dimakiling bowed to GM Pham Le Thao Nguyen of Vietnam, while Fide Master (FM) Pascua lost to GM Dmirty Bocharov of Russia.
Pascua wound up with 5.5 points, the same output of fellow GMs John Paul Gomez, Oliver Barbosa, and Richard Bitoon.
Meanwhile, Dimakiling finished with 4.5 points, tied with GM Eugene Torre.
Another Filipino GM, Mark Paragua, defeated FM Anjas Novita of Indonesia to finish with 5.0 points.
GMs Yu Yangyi and Li Chao of China shared top honors with 7.5 points each in nine outings.
