Confident Thai ready for war vs Banal
MANILA, Philippines - Purluang Sorsingyu of Thailand arrived in the country Tuesday and declared himself fit and ready for his 12-round title fight against Filipino AJ “Bazooka” Banal for the World Boxing Organization bantamweight championship this Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The No. 2 ranked Thai fighter came in on board PR flight 753 and was accompanied by his team composed of Onesongchai Promotions representative Michael Do, Mueankhit Saensuk, and a couple of journalists from Thailand upon their arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2.
Sorsingyu, holder of a 42-1 record, with 27 KOs, was in high spirits and said he’s looking forward to winning the title and add Banal, 23, to his list of Filipino victims that numbered 14 so far.
Team Sorsingyu will be staying at the Sofitel Hotel during their entire stay in Manila.
The Thai fighter gets to meet Banal face-to-face today for one final time before Saturday’s bout as the formal press conference of Pinoy Pride XVII: Philippines vs The World and presented by ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports is set today at the Midas Hotel.
Onesongchai Promotions new head Pariyakorn Ratanasuban who took over his father as top decision maker of Thailand’s biggest boxing and muay thai promotional company, will be joining team Sorsingyu during the afternoon affair.
Meanwhile, veteran referee Tony Weeks will be the third man on the ring during the Banal-Sorsingyu title match, while the three judges scoring the bout are Raul Caiz Jr., Levi Martinez, and Robert Hoyle.
Also fighting in the major undercard are Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista and Daniel Ruiz of Mexico for the WBO International featherweight title, and reigning WBO International light-welterweight champion Jason Pagara defending his title against vs Miguel “Hands of Stone” Antoine of Barbados.
