MANILA, Philippines – Boxing hall of famer and trainer Freddie Roach has already lined up several sparring partners for Manny Pacquiao even as he waits for the arrival of the fighting congressman in the US.
The Filipino superstar is scheduled for a December 8 fight against his Mexican nemesis, Juan Manuel Marquez, and Roach said they’ll need boxers who can mimic the Mexican’s movements inside the ring.
According to Philboxing’s Rich Mazon, among Pacquiao’s sparring mates for the Marquez fight are lightweight boxer Ray Beltran and junior welterweight Ruslan Provodnikov.
Beltran is the reigning North America Boxing Federation (NABF) lightweight titlist known for his counterpunching abilities just like Marquez.
Provodnikov, meanwhile, is the same Russian boxer that helped Pacquiao prepare against Timothy Bradley.
Meanwhile, Roach said he is not worried about Pacquiao delaying his US training, adding that eight weeks are enough to prepare the Filipino for the December 8 bout.
"No big deal. He'll be a couple days late but we have eight weeks before the fight, plenty of time," assured Roach.
