MANILA, Philippines – HBO boxing analyst Max Kellerman believes Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire is closing in on fellow Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao in terms of pound-for-pound status.

Kellerman told Boxing Scene that he was impressed with the way Donaire stalked highly-regarded Japanese boxer Toshiaki Nishioka en route to a ninth-round stoppage win.

“Amazing,” was Kellerman’s reaction to Donaire’s performance.

“Nonito doesn’t get enough credit for totally dominating world-class fighters who sometimes are just showing up to survive, and he’s still dominating them,” he added.

Kellerman expects Donaire to climb the pound-for-pound ladder.

Donaire currently ranks No. 5 in the RING Magazine’s pound-for-pound list.

“I like Donaire, pound-for-pound, even more than other guys do,” stated Kellerman.

Kellerman said that Donaire and American boxer Andre Ward threaten to dislodge Pacquiao from the No. 2 spot.

“Let’s see Floyd the next time out; Floyd is still No. 1. And then, for that second spot, there’s some competition now,” said Kellerman. “Ward and Donaire, they’re both putting pressure on Pacquiao.”
