Barangay Ginebra’s Joe Devance has been in the same situation before and, for the PBA Governors’ Cup title, he’s willing to play through the pain again.
Devance played limited minutes due to an injured hip during a semis game against TNT wherein Ginebra eliminated the KaTropa via a 115-105 win.
When asked if it will be an issue once the two teams square off in a rematch of their 2016 title clash, the 35-year-old downplayed his condition.
"I'll be OK. It's nothing serious. I just kind of tweaked my hip," Devance said in an interview with Spin. "But I'm not going to make an issue out of it."
Coach Tim Cone naturally expressed concern about his player’s health going to the race-to-4 championship that will begin on Friday.
During last year’s championship, Devance also played with an injured foot against the KaTropa.
He was able to gut it out and aided the Gin Kings to claim their first championship in 8 years.
Devance said he might have sustained the injury before their win over TNT.
"I think I got it a game before Game 4," he said. "But I'll be good. As I've said, I'm not going to make an issue out of it.”
