MANILA, Philippines – Barangay Ginebra shoots for its third straight win when it squares off against Meralco in an out of town PBA Philippine Cup game in Digos City, Davao del Sur on Saturday.
The Gin Kings, who are coming off a second straight victory via a 110-90 routing of Global Port, are expected to unleash its fast-paced game against Meralco when they clash at the Sports, Cultural and Business Center.
Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio said he hopes his boys will deliver again just like they did during their 93-86 win over Alaska.
“It really takes a gargantuan effort to subdue Ginebra. It is not going to be easy but for sure we will compete,” said Gregorio in PBA.ph.
He said the Bolts will have to make some stops to disrupt the Gin Kings’ running game.
“I believe that our defense must be solid. We cannot allow the Kings to score on fastbreaks and get their transition game going.”
Leading Ginebra’s charge is Mark Caguioa who averaged 20 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1 steal in the last two games.
Also expected to bring his A game is new recruit LA Tenorio who registered an average of 11 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6 assists and 1.5 steals.
Meralco, on the other hand, will lean on rookie Clifford Hodge.
The fourth-overall draft pick normed 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot.
Also showing promise for the Bolts is Kelly Nabong, who grabbed 11 rebounds and scored 6 points against Alaska.
