MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel star June Mar Fajardo continues to lead the Best Player of the Conference race in the PBA Governors Cup, but TNT’s Jayson Castro and Ginebra’s Greg Slaughter are giving him chase.

The reigning three-time Most Valuable Player averaged 38.45 statistical points per game for the Beermen, thanks to averages of 18.5 points, 11.64 rebounds, and 2.27 blocks per game.

Castro, meanwhile, averaged 33.56 SPs after tallying 18.19 points, 4.38 rebounds, and 6.31 assists per game for the KaTropa.

But Slaughter has gained ground on the two leaders, as the Ginebra slotman has averaged 32.625 SPs with averages of 14.69 points and 8.75 rebounds per game.

Also giving chase is Meralco’s Chris Newsome, the reigning Rookie of the Year, with 30.87 SPs.

Though Fajardo and Castro are both ahead in terms of statistics, Slaughter and Newsome have made a strong case for themselves by leading their respective squads to the conference Finals.

Indeed, Fajardo’s BPC campaign took a blow when the Beermen bowed out in the quarterfinals with a huge loss to Slaughter and the Gin Kings.

The rest of the Top 10 is as follows:

Meanwhile, Meralco import Allen Durham remains on track for a second straight Best Import award. He has averaged 58.87 SPs on 25.4 points, 20.06 rebounds, and 6.81 assists per game.

His closest pursuer, Phoenix’s Brandon Brown, averaged 54.5 SPs but played only six games and failed to lead the Fuel Masters to the playoffs.
