Drogba talks importance of soccer in Ivory Coast
MANILA, Philippines – Ivory Coast soccer star Didier Drogba believes his sport has been vital in the unification and development of people in war-torn Ivory Coast.
In 2006, with conflict and civil war raging in the country, Drogba emerged as a strong symbol in the appeal for reconciliation.
Soccer governing body FIFA also played a part in developing the game in the country, organizing courses for coaches to help develop the game.
Drogba, Ivory Coast’s all-time leading goalscorer with 56, spoke ahead of a vital African Cup of Nations clash with Senegal. -- Dateline Philippines, ANC, October 9, 2012
