Bonnar: I've nothing to lose vs Silva
MANILA – Light heavyweight fighter Stephan Bonnar said he is excited about fighting mixed martial arts (MMA) Anderson Silva in the main event of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 153 this weekend.
Bonnar said what he really likes about fighting Silva is that he doesn’t have to carry the pressure of winning against the reigning middleweight champion.
“I'm like a record-setting underdog in main events in UFC, he's considered the pound-for-pound greatest guy. If I beat Anderson Silva, then I've ruled the world,” said Bonnar in UFC.com.
Silva, who has a record of 30 wins and 4 losses, is a massive favorite going into the fight.
Bonnar's professional record of 17-7 pales in comparison to Silva's stats.
“I like this fight because I've got nothing to lose,” said Bonnar.
The Bonnar-Silva fight, which will take place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will be staged at the light heavyweight division.
Bonnar said he hopes to find loopholes in Silva’s game.
He said he’ll figure that out while taking on Silva in the Octagon.
“You figure things out and find an opening, just keep fighting and open things up, that's what I have to do. Take [the fight] to him and fight my own fight and find openings along the way.”
