MANILA, Philippines – Ronnie "Volcano" Alcano will join other Filipino cue artists in the 35th Annual US Open 9-Ball Championship in Chesapeake, Virginia, US on October 17.
The lanky cue artists, who is among the top players of Perry Mariano's Bugsy Promotions, will be with popular Filipino pool wizards Efren "Bata" Reyes, Francisco" Django" Bustamante, Dennis "Robocop" Orcollo, Roberto “Pinoy Superman” Gomez, Lee Vann "The Slayer" Corteza and Ramil "Bebeng" Gallego.
"Sana maging maganda ang performance natin sa US Open 9-Ball. Baka sa taong ito ay makuha na natin ang championship trophy kasi sa magkasunod na edisyon ay runner-up place lang tayo eh," said Alcano, who recently won the 2010 Sangsom Pattaya 9-Ball Invitational Pool Competition in Thailand.
Mariano is confident that Alcano will perform well again in the US Open.
"Tiyak ako na magiging maganda laro ni Ronnie sa US Open kasama na yung iba pang Filipino cue artists natin. Pero kailangan talaga mag focus na tayo sa grassroots level at sa mga batang player natin kasi nagkaka edad na din yung mga top player natin," said Mariano, also the founder of the National Collegiate Billiards League (NCBL).
Also competing in the US Open 9-Ball are Jose "Amang" Parica, Santos “The Saint” Sambajon, Antonio "Nikoy" Lining, Ramon “Maestro Monching” Mistica, Warren "Warrior" Kiamco, Jun Almoite and Al Lapena.
The US Open is the longest running and most prestigious 9-Ball events in the world.
The field is limited to 256 Players with the champion getting the $40,000 top prize. – By Marlon Bernardino
