MANILA, Philippines – American boxing commentator Max Kellerman recognizes the special talent of “The Filipino Flash” Nonito Donaire Jr.
He said Donaire is so good that the Filipino champion may pull off a knockout win against a tough fighter like Toshiaki Nishioka.
"Nishioka's a really good fighter. He's one of my favorite YouTube fighters. Southpaw, busy, can handle himself, aggressive, hasn't lost in forever,” Kellerman said in Bad Left Hook.
“But he's [Nishioka] 36 years old, and Donaire is a special talent. I think he's (Donaire) a next-level talent.”
Donaire will defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) and International Boxing federation (IBF) super bantamweight titles against Nishioka on October 13.
Also at stake in the 12-rounder are the RING Magazine and World Boxing Council (WBC) Diamond belts.
Kellerman explained Donaire’s failure to score a stoppage ever since his 2011 knockout victory against Fernando Montiel.
“When you fight, as (Vic) Darchinyan has recently, one top fighter after another, it's tough enough to win all those fights, against tough fighters who are still on top, let alone to knock them all out,” said the boxing commentator.
“But Donaire might knock Nishioka out… I think he's that good."
