MANILA, Philippines - Rizal Technological University and De La Salle Zobel beat their rivals to advance in their respective divisions in the 43rd WNCAA tournament over the weekend.
RTU survived San Beda College Alabang, 25-23, 18-25, 21-25, 25-15, 15-13, to arrange a semifinal showdown with Centro Escolar University in senior volleyball at the St. Scholastica Manila gym.
Miriam College and Philippine Women’s University will dispute the other finals slot.
Host DLSZ, meanwhile, stunned defending champion Miriam in the midgets semifinals, 25-14, 25-21, to set up a title duel with San Beda on Oct. 13. San Beda held off Poveda, 25-21, 25-21, to clinch the other finals seat in the tournament backed by Goody, Mikasa, Molten, MJC Photography, network partner AKTV and radio partner Monster Radio RX 93.1.
In the quarterfinals of junior basketball at RTU gym in Mandaluyong, DLSZ dumped St. Jude Catholic School, 52-21, to seal a semis clash with Assumption College, which won by forfeiture over Angelicum College.
Miriam eliminated San Beda, 55-34, and will have Chiang Kai Shek College as its semis opponent while CKSC bested La Salle College Antipolo, 61-45, in the other quarterfinal match.
RTU, also the defending senior futsal champion, emerged No. 1 and will take on No. 4 University of Asia and the Pacific. No. 2 Emilio Aguinaldo College and No. 3 Philippine Women’s University will collide in the other Final Four match on Sunday.
The junior division semifinals will have four-time defending DLSZ taking on San Beda and Miriam going up against Angelicum.
