MANILA, Philippines – Fight promoters from Thailand are proposing a match between Muay Thai star Buakaw Por Pramuk and Filipino boxing legend Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, the Bangkok Post reported.
The promoters, identified as Somchai Charoensombat and Narongwas Buamas, wanted Buakaw and Pacquiao to headline Thailand’s annual boxing event.
According to the Bangkok Post, the pair “came up with the idea and presented it to Charin Suankaew, president of the King Rama IX The Great Foundation. Dr. Charin is in charge of organizing the annual boxing show.”
The fight between Buakaw and Pacquiao is in honor of the Thai king’s 85th birthday.
Somchai said: “No matter how much Pacquiao demands for this fight, we will make it happen.”
The birthday of the Thai king falls on December 5, and Pacquiao is already scheduled to fight rival Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8 in Las Vegas.
Somchai claimed, however, that the contract for the fight will be signed “on Thursday in Manila.”
The Bangkok Post said that if the fight happens, it will be Buakaw’s first match under international boxing rules.
Buakaw has fought in 238 kickboxing matches, winning 205 of them.
