MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao’s assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez has revealed the list of things they will have to watch out when fighting Juan Manuel Marquez.
For one, Fernandez said they will have to negate Marquez’s counterpunching and foot stomping.
Fernandez, who is Pacquiao’s bosom friend, admitted that they have been preoccupied with their offensive tack.
“Lagi tayong umaatake pero minsan nakakalimutan natin ang depensa kaya tumatama 'yung Marquez (We always attack, but at times we forget to defend which is why Marquez scores hits),” said Fernandez in an interview with PTV Sports.
According to Fernandez, Marquez's counterpunching and foot stomping showed weaknesses in Pacquiao's defense. So this time, they will have to step back and re-examine their strategy.
“Eto pinag-aaralan natin na maayos ang tamang strategy para sa Pambansang Kamao natin (We are now studying the right strategy for our National Fist),” said Fernandez.
Pacquiao will be facing Marquez for the fourth time on December 8.
The Filipino boxer knocked down Marquez thrice in the first round of their fight in 2004. But the Mexican fought back in the remaining rounds and the fight ended in a controversial draw.
The two again figured in tight ring battles in 2008 and 2011 with Pacquiao winning by decisions. Both of those fights also ended in controversy.
