Aquino tops Cabuyao chess

MANILA, Philippines – National University chess coach Jose Aquino scored a perfect six points to bag the 9th Pulo Fiesta Non-Master Chess Tournament title last Sunday at the covered court of the Pulo Elementary School in Cabuyao, Laguna.

He received a P3,000 cash prize and the champion’s trophy.

Unrated Philip Cadiao of Calamba City garnered 5.5 points to land in second place and receive P2,000.

Arnel Pinero wound up in solo third place with five points.
Meanwhile, Jethro Jimenez, Aaron Kimuel Lorenzo, Ramon Joseph Estevez and Roldan Llavanes all finished with 4.5 points to finish in a tie for fourth to seventh places.

Category winners were: Aaron Kimuel Lorenzo (top junior); Shanaia Mae Mendoza (top lady); Keiffer Pelias (top Cabuyao player).

The event was organized by the Cabuyao Chess Club and the Laguna Chess Center. -- By Marlon Bernardino
