Iron Mike commends Donaire's fighting spirit
MANILA, Philippines – Former world heavyweight and boxing Hall-of-Famer "Iron" Mike Tyson is impressed with the fighting spirit of world super bantamweight champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire.
In an interview with Examiner, Tyson said he is impressed with Donaire's abilities both in and out of the boxing ring.
"He's a pretty interesting guy," Tyson said. "He's a rapper as well, have you seen him before his fights?"
"But he can fight as well," he added. "So he can back it up. I just think he has an awesome fighting spirit."
Donaire is set to face Japanese boxer Toshiaki Nishioka on October 13 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.
But when he was asked about Filipino ring icon Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, Tyson admitted that he was surprised about Pacquiao's decision to fight his rival, Juan Manuel Marquez, for a fourth time.
"I can't believe he's fighting that guy again," he said.
Still, Tyson said he plans to watch the fight, which he said will be "interesting."
"That's going to be a pretty interesting fight," he said. "I'm going to watch that fight. It's going to be tough for Pacquiao. It's a tough fight for him."
Pacquiao and Marquez will clash for a fourth time on December 8 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
