Red Lions win sixth straight game in Fr. Martin

MANILA, Philippines – The defending champions San Beda Red Lions drew 21 points from Van Abatayo as they routed the Mapua Cardinals, 77-66, in the 10th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup at the St. Placid gym in San Beda.

Abatayo teamed up with Jeric Estrada and Michol Sorela, who each scored 14, to power the Red Lions to their sixth straight win in Group A. San Beda is now assured of a quarterfinals slot.

Meanwhile, Mustapha Arafat and Benjamin Dy shone for the University of the East Red Warriors, who outplayed the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 72-66.

The Warriors, coming out of a long layoff, drew 14 points from Arafat and 13 from Dy as they picked up their fifth win in six games in Group B.

This put the Warriors on top of their group and they remain in contention for the top quarterfinal slot in their bracket.

In other games, the Technical Institute of the Philippines Engineers won by default over the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals.

In juniors action, Lance Abude fired 25 points for the San Beda Red Cubs, who repulsed EAC-ICA, 66-58, while JJ Galimit hit 14 for Chiang Kai Shek as they downed Xavier School.
