The San Sebastian-Recoletos Staglets downed the Letran Squires, 77-70, to sweep the best-of-three series to claim their fourth straight National Collegiate Athletic Association juniors basketball championship for Season 84 at the Araneta Coliseum.
It was a double celebration for coach Raymond Valenzona who is celebrating his birthday.
"Itong pagkakataong ito, mas masarap dahil itong team na ito, galing talaga sa ibaba," a beaming Valenzona said.
He added that like any other game they played, team member poured out all their efforts for the championship.
Asked if the Staglets will aim at their fifth championship next year, Valenzona said they will definitely do that.
However, the team will first enjoy this rare fourth straight victory in the juniors division.
"Siguro sa ngayon kailangan muna naming i-enjoy 'yung four-peat," he said.
"Siguro tatrabahuhin din namin pero sa ngayon kailangan muna naming i-enjoy ito," he added.
Aside from blanking Letran, the Staglets also posted a league best 14-0 win-loss record starting from the elimination round.
Valenzona was named the NCAA juniors basketball coach of the year -- his fourth in a row.
Arvie Bringas of the Staglets, meanwhile, got the Most Valuable Player award for the Finals.
