Red Lions, Stags score crucial wins in Fr. Martin

MANILA, Philippines – Jeric Estrada came up with big baskets for the defending champions San Beda Red Lions while Leo de Vera had a strong game for the San Sebastian Stags-A as both squads booked crucial wins in the 10th Fr. Martin Division 2 Cup.

Estrada scored 13 points to lead the Red Lions past the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 63-58. It was the fifth consecutive victory for San Beda.

Meanwhile, de Vera fired 25 points as the Stags routed the Mapua Cardinals, 88-56, at the St. Placid gym in San Beda. San Sebastian claimed their fifth win in seven outings.

Both the Red Lions and the Stags remain in contention for one of the four quarterfinal slots in their bracket.

In other game, the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals defeated the Angeles University Foundation, 69-61, while the University of Perpetual Help Altas trounced Trinity, 73-61, and Jose Rizal University outlasted Arellano University, 68-61, in overtime.

Tournament commissioner Robert dela Rosa said the top four squads in each bracket will make the cut to the quarterfinal round.
