MIAMI - Former National Football League receiver Chad Johnson pleaded no contest to domestic battery charges against ex-wife Evelyn Lozada in a Florida courtroom on Friday and will receive no jail time.
Six-time NFL All-Pro receiver Johnson married Lozada in July and was arrested in August after Lozada said he head-butted her during a dispute. The couple's divorce was finalized earlier this week.
Johnson, who changed his name to Chad Ochocinco to match his jersey number at one point but has since switched back to his original name, was placed on probation for one year and ordered to complete a counseling course.
He must also pay Lozada unspecified restitution.
The Miami Dolphins released Johnson shortly after the incident. Johnson, 34, has previously played for the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals but is not currently on an NFL roster.
