MANILA, Philippines – Filipino flyweight Milan "El Metodico" Melindo survived a rough final four rounds to earn a close majority decision victory over Venezuelan fighter Jean Piero Perez in the main event of Pinoy Pride XVI Saturday night in Cebu City.

According to PhilBoxing, Melindo was named the winner with scores of 114-114, 116-112 and 115-113.

He improved his record to 28-0 with 11 knockouts, and retained his World Boxing Organization international flyweight belt.

Melindo was aggressive at the start the fight, overcoming Perez's reach advantage to land combinations. He attacked Perez's body well, but the Venezuelan fighter was able to rally throughout the middle of the fight.

A well-placed shot from Perez opened a cut above Melindo’s left eye, which continued to bleed throughout the final rounds.

But Melindo was able to avoid taking much punishment in the final two rounds while landing punches at Perez's head.

Perez, a former interim WBO flyweight champion, lost for the fifth time in his career.

In the undercard, Rocky Fuentes routed Japan's Myung Ho Lee to win by unanimous decision.
