MANILA, Philippines - Defending champions San Beda College Red Lions won their 12th game in style, routing the Arellano University Chiefs, 84-60 in the 2nd round of the men's basketball tournament of NCAA Season 87.

The Red Lions thoroughly outclassed the Chiefs, breaking the game wide open in the 1st half.

San Beda took advantage of Arellano's poor defense as they waltzed into the line time and again for easy lay-ups.

With Arellano forward Gerald Lapuz not playing, San Beda's big men Jake Pascual and Dave Marcelo had their way inside the paint.

In the 2nd half, Garvo Lanete added to the Chiefs' woes as he canned three 3-pointers in the 3rd period.

Pascual had a double-double of 18 points and 10 boards, along with 6 assists.

The Chiefs actually got their running game going in the 2nd half, with reserve guard Donald Gumaru and Ralph Salcedo able to convert lay-ups on the fastbreak.

But the Chiefs had no answer on the other end as the Red Lions continued to make easy lay-ups.

With the win, the Red Lions are now tied with idle Letran for 2nd place, with both teams toting 12-2 records.

The Chiefs sustained their 11th loss against 5 wins.
