MANILA, Philippines -- The UAAP men’s basketball Final 4 cast will be known on the last day of competition in the elimination round on Sunday.
The University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Tigers and the De la Salle Green Archers took huge steps in their Final 4 campaign by beating their separate opponents on Thursday.
UST defeated University of the East (UE), 87-75, to gain at least a playoff for the No. 2 seed in the semifinals.
The Top 2 seeds in the Final 4 own a twice-to-beat advantage.
La Salle, on the other hand, routed Adamson University (AdU), 72-59, to slip into the 4th and final semis berth.
But that could all change, depending on the result of the Far Eastern University (FEU)-National University (NU) rematch on Sunday.
Final four race scenarios
If FEU wins over NU on Sunday, FEU will face UST in a playoff for No. 2 seed, and La Salle gains the 4th semis slot.
However, if NU wins over FEU, NU gains 3rd seed via higher quotient, and La Salle will face FEU in a playoff for 4th seed while UST will automatically be the No. 2 seed, behind Ateneo.
The UAAP board ordered the two teams to play again, after it ruled in favor of NU's protest on the buzzer-beating win of FEU in their second-round encounter. -- ANC
