MANILA, Philippines – Fighting congressman Manny Pacquiao said he has chosen Juan Manuel Marquez over Timothy Bradley because he has more to prove against the Mexican boxer.
Pacquiao and Marquez have already figured in three fights with the last and most controversial bout taking place last November.
“People ask me ‘Did you really win [the third bout]?’ and I tell them ‘Yes, I think I really won’ but [Marquez] says he won. So something is wrong,” Pacquiao in RingTV during the kick-off press conference for their fourth bout.
The two first fought in 2004, when Pacquiao scored three first-round knockdowns against Marquez only to settle for a draw.
The Filipino boxer pulled off two successive wins in the ensuing encounters, both of which ended in decisions.
But the last face off in November 2011 turned out as the most controversial. Devoid of any knockdowns against Marquez, Pacquiao was still able to hack out a majority decision win.
On December 8, Pacquiao said he will go back to his unfinished business against Marquez. “I want to erase the doubts of the fans in boxing,” said Pacquiao.
With regards to the Bradley fight, the Filipino champion said it is a bout not worth repeating.
“Ano bang kailangang i-prove ko? In-analyze ko ang laban namin, at kitang kita ng lahat na talagang one-sided fight,” Pacquiao said earlier.
