Malditas trounce Singapore to end AFF campaign

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Malditas ended their ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship campaign on a high note after beating Singapore, 7-2, in a goal-fest Monday in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

It was the Malditas’ lone victory in the competition, after losing their first two games against Myanmar (0-3) and Vietnam (2-4).

Heather Cooke scored a hat-trick for the Philippines with goals in the 37th, 55th and 57th minutes. Patrice Impelido (19th), Marice Magdolot (75th), Samanta Nierras (76th) and Abigail Komarc (92nd) also found the back of the net.

Singapore took two goals back off scores from Kamaliah Hashim in the 71st and 77th minutes.

The Malditas finished the tournament with a 1-2 win-loss record, while Singapore wound up winless.

Meanwhile, Vietnam defeated Myanmar 2-1 to clinch the top spot in Group A. The two squads advanced to the next stage of the competition. -- With a report from ANC.
