MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Swimming League president Susan Papa has appointed lawyer Ma. Teresa Mahiwo as head of Region 5, which will cover the league’s operations in Legazpi, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate and Sorsogon.
Mahiwo, founder of Ibalong Magayon Aquagliders Swim Club of Legazpi City, will be serving the region in partnership with Sylvano Mahiwo, Ph. D., professor in international relations and Japan studies at the Asian Center of the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
”We have a big task ahead of us in Region 5,” said Mahiwo, whose fast-rising Ibalong Magayon Club boasts of 60 members aged 5-18 and is making inroads in interclub competitions.
“We just produced a first Bicolana qualifier, Arianne Armi Alcantara, for the coming 2013 Universiade at Kazan, Russia,” she added.
Papa said Mahiwo was inspired by her son’s gold medal finish during the first Nikki Coseteng Swimming Cup.
