Marquez training for another Pacquiao fight
MANILA, Philippines – Boxing trainer Nacho Beristain said his prized pupil, Juan Manuel Marquez, is already training even as they wait for Manny Pacquiao's decision on his next opponent.
Beristain said the Mexican counterpuncher has been visiting the Romanza Gym to keep himself in shape.
“Marquez now, he’s in good condition. He trains daily and he waits only to the final day to begin the formal training,” the coach said in Boxing Scene.
Marquez is one of Pacquiao’s options for his ring return on December 8.
The other is reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion timothy Bradley.
Beristain said he wanted his boxer to fight Pacquiao again.
Marquez lost to the fighting congressman through a controversial majority decision last November.
“I want that fight again,” Beristain said. “It’s a very good fight and the world of boxing is waiting on that fight.”
Marquez and Pacquiao also fought in 2004 and 2008. Their first face-off ended in a draw, while the second one went in favor of the Filipino champion.
Should Pacquiao decide to battle Bradley, Beristain said Marquez would likely face the winner between Erik Morales and Danny Garcia.
