MANILA, Philippines – Robeno Javier of the Philippine duathlon team wound up on top of the Unilab Active Health Duathlon last September 9 after fending off a spirited challenge from John Chicano of the Philippine triathlon team.
Javier and Chicano were neck-and-neck after the run leg but Javier took a slight lead after the bike leg, and carried his momentum all the way to the final leg of the race.
He finished with a time of 2:17:07, first among the male competitors in the long distance event (6-km run, 60-km bike, 4-km run).
Chicano settled for second place with a time of 2:17:50.
Almost 700 competitors signed up for the duathlon, which was held last weekend at the SCTEX South Clark Exit in Clark, Pampanga.
In the women’s division, Monica Torres ran away with the crown as she left the field behind with a tim eof 2:34:01.
Torres’ closest competitor, Rizielle Tangan, clocked in with a time of 2:51:12.
Meanwhile, in the sprint distance (3-km run, 20-km bike, 2-km run), Kim Mangrobang topped the race with a time of 1:05:16.
Mari Grace Maligaya came in second with a time of 1:13:57, followed by Noelle De Guzman with a time of 1:14:17.
In the men’s division, Kevin Elijansantos took over in the bike leg to finish with a time of 57 minutes anf 41 seconds. Mark
Gregory Pile came in second with 59:59, while Marc Altura, who took a brief lead after the first leg, faded in the bike leg to wound up third, 1:01:59.
