Fr. Martin Cup: Chiefs, Engineers earn wins

MANILA, Philippines – The Arellano University Chiefs and the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) Engineers posted contrasting wins in the 10th Fr. Martin Division 1 Cup basketball tournament at the TIP gymnasium in Quiapo, Manila.

The Chiefs, who got 21 points from Dionce Holts, banked on the split free throw of Al Ho in the dying seconds to escape the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 85-82.

Ho’s basket allowed the Chiefs to notch their third straight win in Group B of the cagefest.

Meanwhile, the TIP Engineers banked on a big third-quarter run to repel the Angeles University Foundation Great Danes, 77-65.

Jeffrey Yanes fired 18 points for TIP, who nover looked back after a 12-6 run to take control of the game in the third quarter.

The Engineers improved to 2-3 in Group A.

In the junior division, Chiang Kai Shek-A (3-0) crushed San Sebastian College, 75-36, while San Benildo (3-1) whipped CKSC-B, 72-56, to move ahead in the lead in Group A.
