MANILA, Philippines – San Miguel Beerman Asi Taulava is set to make a comeback in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) as the league approved a four-player deal that will send him to Air21.

According the PBA website, Air21 has won the Filipino-Tongan’s signing rights from Meralco in a trade that involved Mark Borboran, Mike Cortez and James Sena.

PBA commissioner Chito Salud gave his thumbs up on the deal on Saturday, which means Taulava may suit up for the Express in their September 13 game against Talk ‘N Text.

“We entered into this deal with the blessing of SMC since Asi is under contract with them in the ABL (Asean Basketball League). Generous naman ang San Miguel, they allowed us to get Asi,” said Air21 top official Lito Alvarez.

“We’re not privy to his contract with San Miguel. We’ll make him an offer, giving him the PBA UPC (uniform player contract),” he added.

The last time Taulava played in Asia’s first pay-for-play league was when he was still with Meralco in 2012.

But after things didn’t work out between him and the Meralco management, he bolted out of the PBA and joined the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL).

There, he steered the San Miguel Beermen to its first ABL title.
