MANILA, Philippines – The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) board has ordered a "re-play" of the controversial game between the National University (NU) Bulldogs and the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws last Sunday.
The UAAP board reversed the earlier decision of Commissioner Ato Badolato rejecting the protest of NU over its controversial loss.
“The FEU-NU rematch will be on Sept 23. The Board overturned Comm Badolato's decision,” UAAP's Online Media Bureau said in its official Twitter account.
The NU Bulldogs elevated their protest to the board, which favored NU's claim that Tamaraw guard RR Garcia's winning basket in the final seconds should not have counted.
Garcia’s lay-up was ruled as valid by game officials after a lengthy review, giving FEU the victory with the score of 77-75.
NU placed that game under protest but Badolato upheld the decision of game officials.
The UAAP board, however, reversed the decision and ordered the two teams to "re-play" the match on Sunday, September 23. -- With a report from ANC
