MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) -- The De La Salle University Green Archers crushed the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons, 76-69, in the second game of Thursday's UAAP men's basketball.
Although the Archers suffered temporary lapses against the Maroons in the third quarter, they were able to pull through in the final quarter for their seventh win in 11 games.
Jeron Teng made most of the damage against UP in the first half, finishing with a total of 19 points, five rebounds and two assists.
Almond Vosotros also stepped up for the absence of LA Revilla by coming up with 21 points and a steal.
The Archers, led by Teng, dictated the tempo in the first half as they surged to a 41-34 half time lead.
But UP’s Henry Asilum started a 14-4 exchange against La Salle to help the Maroons seize a 48-45 lead in the third quarter.
The Archers quickly regrouped and blasted the Maroons with a 9-0 run for a 54-50 advantage going into the final quarter.
Mike Silungan’s triple chopped La Salle lead to six, 72-66, with over two minutes to play.
Vosotros, however, quelled the UP uprising with a triple of his own, pushing La Salle further ahead, 75-66.
The Archers cruised to victory after that, while UP fell to its 10th set back in 11 games.
