'Bata,' 'Django' eliminate HK from World Cup of Pool

MANILA, Philippines – Legendary billiards duo Efren “Bata’ Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante of Philippines Team B blasted Hong Kong, 8-3, in their Party Poker.Net “World Cup of Pool” encounter at the Robinsons Place in Manila on Tuesday night.

It was a very good evening for Reyes and Bustamente, who outplayed the Chinese tandem of Lee Chenmen and Kenny Kwok, according to Philboxing’s Ronnie Nathanielsz. (http://philboxing.com/news/story-74671.html)

The win set Reyes and Bustmante on a collision course against the Canadian team of Filipino-Canadian Alex Pagulayan and John Morra.

The Pinoy tandem opened the game against Hong Kong 2-0 before Reyes’ misfired on the break. This allowed Hong Kong to catch up at 2-1.

But Reyes’ safety shot paved the way for a comfortable 5-1 margin for Philippines Team B.

Hong Kong won its second rack following a dry break by Bustamante to make it 5-2. However, Lee missed a 6-9 combination that allowed the Philippines to up its advantage to 7-2.

In the following rack, Reyes missed a long shot and this allowed Hong Kong to cut the Filipinos’ lead to 7-3.

But Hong Kong failed to sustain its attack as Lee came up with a dry break.

Reyes pounced on the error and closed the game out for an 8-3 win.
