MANILA, Philippines -- At his last tournament in the Philippines before leaving for Spain, it was clear why 9-year-old Sandro Reyes was chosen to be part of the FC Barcelona Escola.

Reyes and his team were on the field the whole day.

They defeated six other teams en route to the finals.

The effort was worth it as the Alabang/Makati football school team emerged as champions.

Reyes leaves next week to begin his training on September 16.
His father will depart first to attend a parents' briefing, followed by his mother who will stay with Reyes in Barcelona.

"[We’ll attend the] parent's orientation atsaka ‘yung contract signing. Meron kasing mga terms and conditions ang kanyang pag-accept sa Barcelona academy,” said Reyes’ father, Edmund.

Reyes is finishing the 2nd quarter of his studies in the Philippines and is also learning Spanish in preparation for the move.

Reyes dreams of one day becoming as good as his idol Lionel Messi of the FC Barcelona team.
